Eccentrick Art Show 2009

This year's Eccentrick Art Show was a complete success, yet very interesting. As a fellow Mary Ward student, I was glad to help set up the Art Show. There were many interesting artifacts that were displayed in the Art Show which amazed me and those who visited the Art Show. I helped set up the Aladdin's Magic Carpet Ride, where people sit down and watch the screen. When the visitors watched the screen, it looked like they were actually flying and the video would show people's houses that the tech students created on Google Sketchup. My job in the Art Show was security, where I would have to check if the visitors have the stamp to verify that they paid for their ticket, otherwise they are not permitted to enter the Art Show. Also, the maze was so cool in Art, where they would have to walk inside and travel their way around the maze. I'm pretty amazed at how much effort the students and teachers took to set up the Eccentrick Art Show and made it a fantastic Art Show.
Tickets were sold out very fast when the tickets for the Eccentrick Art Show was distributed. Lots of money were raised for the school, and many schools came and visited Mary Ward just to see the Art Show. More than 10 schools visited Mary Ward, and the tech students helped tour them around the tech area. I enjoyed the Art Show at Mary Ward because it was full of surprises and pretty eye-catching. There were lots of interesting artifacts which amazed me.

Everything's Amazing and Nobody's Happy..

Everything's Amazing and Nobody's Happy

Mm.. Conan O'Brien What a good talkshow, especially when Louis C.K was the guest. After watching that clip on what he had to say about technology, I agree on his behalf. It is true how technology these days was much better than what they had in the past. Like he mentioned the telephone back then. They had those dial telephones where they had to turn the dial so they can punch the number in. They would have to turn the dial about 10 times in order to make a call back in the day. Since there had been new inventions over the years, dial telephones could no longer be used because there would be telephones where they would use their fingers to punch in the numbers in stead of using their fingers for the dial. Since they created cellphones, people should not be mad just because it takes long to turn on. They should be glad that its not a dial phone. When the phone is on, its connecting with the sattelites, which gives you connection to contact others around the world. Also, text messaging is a brilliant invention. People could use their phone to text others instead of the old fashioned way, which is writing letters and mailing it.

When he talked about the airplane, he made me laugh. =) How many inventions these days can make you fly high in the sky with birds? Also, on the airplanes, how amazing is it when you can get high speed internet when your so high up in the sky? I think it's brilliant. Another thing, he is correct on how us spoiled brats take technology for granted. Some of us don't realize how great these inventions are. According to those, they would just not enjoy the fact that this new generation of techonology was not around in the past, while it's in the present. They should make use of this technology, not let it go to waste.

When I asked my parents about technology in the "good old days", they mentioned that they had no iPods, Telephones, Cellphones with text messaging, Television, digital cameras, etc. We should be grateful that we now have the most latest technology in the century. They also said that we (us students) are very fortunate to have computer with internet, because in the old days, homework was done without the internet, just the old fashioned use of the brain. Since theres been new inventions of technology, it has changed the lives of others around the world. The world was no longer what it used to be back in the good old days. All the students now own an iPod, have digital cameras, computers and internet where they can get resourcesfor homework, Cellphones and text messaging, and more.

If technology were to disappear one day, I would pobably miss Television the most. Life without television would not be the same because television entertains me when I'm usually bored. I would consider myself a spoiled brat because I would not appreciate how amazing that "item" is. I would think that it would just be another electronic device, but I can change! =)

CELL PHONE MANNERS MATTER!

Cellphones...cellphones..cellphones. What have they done to us? After reading this article, it is quite astonishing how society has changed. Manners play a huge part everywhere. When people sneeze, burp, or flatuate, people say "excuse me." When people use cellphones, they do not tend to care about anything else besides the conversation that they are having with the person on the phone. Also, I agree that there is a time to use a cellphone like for emergencies, but not in important situations. Like me for instance, I would use cellphones for emergencies only. What's the point of talking to your friends when you see them the next day? I think that it's pointless. Especially in schools, I see people texting in school to others while they should be doing their units, especially when we have not much school days left until we have our exams. We should be focusing on our units! Not Texting! Now, for the five rules, there is lots of rules to state, but I think that these are the top 5 coming from me:

Rule #1: Whenever people use cellphones, please don't shout. It's really annoying when you hear someone screaming at the cellphone when they should be talking in their normal voice. Plus, they would be waisting their breath and the other person on the line might not understand what they are saying.

Rule #2: Never use your cellphone in school unless it's for emergencies. Nowadays, I've seen students who would use their cellphones to waste time by texting to other friends while they should be working on their units, especially when the school year is coming to and end and exams will be following shortly. I would advise those who still use cellphones in school to stop texting, put it on vibrate incase of emergencies, and focus on their studies.

Rule #3: Please don't talk on the cellphone when you are driving. Most car accidents come from cellphones which the driver is distracted by talking, not looking. I hope in the future that there will be a cellphone ban when people are driving on the streets because it's not safe.

Rule #4: Please turn off your cellphones when they are not needed. Like at church, school, at movies, when they tell us to turn our cellphones off, they should actually turn off their cellphones so they won't cause any inconvenience. P.S: Why would you keep your cellphone on at church, when you should be praying to the Lord? =)

Rule#5: Don't talk on the cellphone too long while your outside or on the bus, train, etc. Nowadays, there has been theft occuring to those who carry those fancy electronics, like Blackberrys, iPods, Cellphones, etc. This world is not safe anymore because there are lots of bad people who want to get their hands on things that they cannot afford or have.

In my opinion, these rules should be applied to everyone. I suggest that they should follow these tips on cellphones because they do really help. Especially rule #2 =) Anyhoo, this is my blog. Comment Please =)

Colossal U Ad Campaign

After looking over the Ads, and visiting the site, these ads are a complete joke. No one in the world could possibly turn out the same because everyone in the world is different and unique. Students in Algoma University cannot turn out exactly the same because everyone has their advantages and their disadvantages in subjects. Students might be doing extremely well in one subject and might do bad in other subjects. They shouldn't have crated this Ad because it isn't true. When i looked over the second Ad, it was another pointless Ad. New Ideas? New Thinking? Not at Algoma University? Why can't there be new ideas or new thinking at Algoma University? Is it just that the teachers don't want any new ideas that could change their ways of teaching students? I can believe that they would want students to wear the same uniform, but education wise, everyone will not turn out exactly the same. Some students would pass their course, or fail their course. I guess that they put up this Ad to interest the parents. They would think that all students would be doing well as everyone, so it's a trap. In my opinion, why would they say this? Are they trying to look good to other schools because it's not working.

When I entered a site, it did impress me. What the school had to offer to us students like Co-op, etc. The teachers do want to help the students succeed in life and want the students to have a better future. There are some programs Algoma University, where you can actually get a well paid job. Algoma University looks like a very organized school where people can actually succeed in their studies.

Well, I have to say that their website is impressive, but their Ads are not. In my opinion, they are distrtibuting the wrong message to us students and parents. Why did they have to say, "Every Colossal student will turn out exactly the same, we guarenteed it?" Thats telling us that everyone will have the same job and career path when students graduate? Are they telling us that they will force each student to study their studies even though they don't like that subject? Do students not have the freedom to study what they want and what they want to be in the near future? Algoma University may be neat, organized, dream school for students, but I wouldn't go to that school. They've distributed the wrong message and thats a nono.

Gaming Gone Wild

Back in elementary school, I used to love video games. I would come home everyday and play just like a junkie who would do no homework. There are different types of video games that many people like me would love to play, like action or fantasy. Video games have been improved since then. Video games are like a child's best friend, except they don't exist. I used to love video games because you can't do the things in games in real life. It's like when people jump off a building, they would live, but if I were to jump off a building in real life, I would die D:

In my opinion, video games are like diseases, where it spreads to everyone and makes them enjoy the game, while it cuts into their usual time, where they should be homeworking. It's not very educational either because you get nothing out of the game, while the side effects might be health problems such as: seizures, arthritus, etc. Most Video Gamers are overweight because they don't get enough exercise, while they just sit down and play all day. Video games are a bad influence to the younger generation because if they get hooked on video games at an early age, they would grow up into an addictive gamer who would start flunking school. From graduating elementary school, I thought it would be the time to cut back from the gaming, and start to focus on the real things in life. As a mature high school student, I would complete my homework instead of playing video games. Video games is basically killing time while i have no homework, but thats impossible :).

"The Campaign Trail"

In this commercial, the budlight commercial was brought back to life. Today, they displayed the original version of the BudLight commercial. Then, when i saw the second commercial, they added Obama. His campaign commercial was very interesting in many ways. He was explaining many of today's practical problems. People were hurt and no one was there to help him, natural disasters were occurring as one guy was standing in the storm, the stocks were going down and the person was losing his mind. There was one guy who was wearing a neck brace in crutches, paining in agony, and no one was there to help him. This commercial was yet funny, but it's very realistic. That can be happening to anyone in the world today. This commercial distributed a clear message, that Obama can change the world.

In my opinion, the two presidents are very good candidates and its hard to vote for one candidate. McCain is seventy-two years old, a very experienced person who has been through all these situations. He has been making interesting points during the election. McCain can be the next president of the United States.

Obama is around forty-two years old, not very experienced, but he's making very powerful statements during the election. If he was elected president, he would be the first african american president, and the 42th president of the United States. In conclusion, both men would make America proud and change our lives in the near future. I think that voting for Obama would be a great decision because we would have someone new, haing fresh ideas to change the world.

Overall, this is great commercial to send a message to the fellow Americans. That commercial basically describes the problems occurring in the world, while Obama can make a change. I would recommend this commercial to an Obama fan, so they would have a good laugh, and see their favouite president
